Abstract

Honesty and responsibility are fundamental character values that shape individual quality and the moral standing of a nation. Cheating, plagiarism, and neglect of obligations remain common in educational settings. Islamic Religious Education holds a strategic role in instilling these values because they are grounded in the Qur'an and Hadith. This study aims to describe the concepts of honesty and responsibility in Islam, the stages of value internalization, strategies of internalization through Islamic Religious Education, and their supporting and inhibiting factors. Using a qualitative library research method with content analysis, the study finds that internalization proceeds through value transformation, value transaction, and trans-internalization. These stages can be strengthened through role modelling, habituation, advice, supervision, and reinforcement, together with integration of values into learning and school culture. Success depends on synergy among teachers, family, and environment, while obstacles include a lack of role models, the influence of social media, and an overly cognitive emphasis in teaching.
