Abstract

Digital transformation has brought about significant changes in the teaching of Indonesian literature, particularly in enhancing pupils’ ability to write poetry in the 21st century. This study aims to describe the implementation of digital-based literature teaching, analyse the role of education policy in supporting the digitisation of literature, identify the challenges faced, and explain the effectiveness of digitisation as a medium for teaching poetry writing. The research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, involving the analysis of various academic sources, books, and relevant policy documents. The findings indicate that the digitisation of literature education is capable of creating a more interactive, collaborative, and creative learning experience through the utilisation of various digital platforms. The teaching practices implemented by the Purwokerto School of Literary Writing (SKSP) through the concept of media adaptation (screen adaptation) serve as a concrete example of the successful adaptation of literature teaching to the digital sphere. Furthermore, government policy, through the ‘Literature in the Curriculum’ programme within the Merdeka Curriculum, provides support for strengthening pupils’ literacy, creativity and character. Nevertheless, the digitisation of literature still faces various challenges, such as the piracy of literary works, reduced concentration during learning due to social media distractions, a decline in interest in printed books, and the need to improve digital literacy. Therefore, teachers must possess the competence to integrate technology with appropriate pedagogical strategies so that digital-based literature learning can be carried out effectively. This study concludes that the digitisation of literature has the potential to improve students’ ability to write poetry and to foster students who are literate, critical, creative, and adaptable to technological developments in the 21st century.
